Getting started

What the Love Tester game is, whether it is free, and how to run your first test.

What is the Love Tester game?

Love Tester is a free online novelty game. You type two names — usually your own and a crush, partner, friend, or celebrity — tap the heart, and a love meter fills to a compatibility percentage between 0% and 100% with a playful one-line verdict. It is the browser version of the classic name-based "love calculator" party game, rebuilt with a clean interface and smooth animation. It is meant for laughs, not for real relationship guidance.

Is Love Tester free to play?

Yes. lovetester.lol is completely free and runs entirely in your browser. There is nothing to buy, download, or install, no account to create, and no paywall. Open the page and you can run a test immediately.

Do I need to download or install anything?

No. Love Tester is a 100% browser-based game built with HTML and JavaScript. It loads in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, and other modern browsers on desktop and mobile without a plugin, app store listing, or installer.

Where does the Love Tester game come from?

The name-based love test is a decades-old playground and magazine pastime — write two names, cross out shared letters, count what is left — that moved onto arcade machines and then, in the early web era, into countless "love calculator" and "Love Tester" browser toys. lovetester.lol is an independent, modern implementation of that same idea: type two names, get a percentage, share the laugh.

What should I type in the two boxes?

Anything you like. The common setup is your name in one box and a crush or partner in the other, but friends-versus-friends, celebrity couples, fictional characters, band members, or two random names all work. The game does not care who the names belong to.

How the score works

Where the love percentage comes from, why it is the same every time, and what it is not.

How does Love Tester calculate the score?

The percentage comes from Pythagorean name numerology applied to the two names you type. Each name is cleaned up (trimmed and lower-cased), converted to a life-path number from 1 to 9, and those two digits are compared on a fixed compatibility chart. The order of the names does not matter. Nothing about you, your device, your location, or your actual relationship is part of the calculation.

Is the Love Tester result accurate?

No, and it is not designed to be. Love Tester is entertainment. It does not measure attraction, trust, communication, shared values, or anything else that a real relationship depends on. A high score is not a prediction and a low score is not a warning — both are just the output of a name calculation.

Does the order of the names matter?

No. The game sorts the two names internally before scoring, so "Alex + Sam" and "Sam + Alex" always return the same percentage. Which box you type each name into makes no difference.

Is there any randomness in the result?

No. There is no random number generator involved. The percentage is computed directly from the two name strings, which is why it never changes for the same pair. The "calculating" heartbeat you see is a short animation, not the game thinking.

Does Love Tester use my location, contacts, or social accounts?

No. The game has no access to any of that and asks for none of it. There is no sign-in, no permissions prompt, and no contact picker. The only input is the text you type into the two name fields.

Reading results

What the bands and verdicts mean, and how to get a different number.

Why do I get the same score every time for the same names?

Because the result is deterministic. The score is a fixed function of the exact text of the two names, so the same pair always produces the same percentage. This is deliberate — it means you can re-check a result later or share it and have a friend get the same number.

How do I get a different (or higher) love percentage?

Change at least one of the names. Swap a full name for a first name, add or drop a middle name, use a nickname or initials, or fix a spelling. Even a single different letter produces a different score. Running the exact same pair again will not change anything.

What do the percentage bands and verdicts mean?

Each score falls into a band with a short label, from "Not a spark in sight" near 0% up through "Could go either way" in the middle to "Practically soulmates" and "Written in the stars" at the top. The labels are flavour text written for a smile — they are not ratings, advice, or predictions.

Can two names ever score 0% or 100%?

Yes. The full 0–100 range is possible, including the extremes. They are rare, and landing on one is part of the fun — a 100% gets an "aww" and a 3% gets a laugh. Neither means anything.

Is a low score bad luck or a sign?

Neither. It is the output of a numerology-style formula on two pieces of text. Treating a Love Tester score as an omen is like reading a fortune cookie as a contract. Enjoy the number, then ignore it.

Devices, history, and privacy

Mobile play, saved history, accounts, and what is stored.

Can I play Love Tester on my phone?

Yes. The layout is built mobile-first: the two name fields and the heart button stack into one column that fits on screen without scrolling, and every control is tap-sized. The result appears in place with no page reload.

Does Love Tester save my history?

Your most recent name pairs and their scores, your highest score, and your total number of tests are saved locally in your own browser so you can glance back at them. Nothing is sent to a server, and there is no account. Clearing site data or switching devices starts you fresh.

Do you store the names I enter?

Only in your own browser, as part of the local history described above, and only so the game can show you recent results and restore your last pair. The names are not uploaded to us. Google Analytics records that a test was run and the resulting score as an aggregate number — never the names themselves.

Do I need an account to use Love Tester?

No. There is no sign-up, no email gate, and no profile. Your history and best score stay in this browser on this device. The trade-off is that we cannot restore your history on a new device, because none of it is stored on our side.

How do I clear my Love Tester history?

Open the stats panel from the game and use the reset control, which clears your saved pairs, best score, and test count for this browser after a confirm tap. Clearing your browser’s site data for lovetester.lol does the same thing.

Why did my Love Tester history disappear?

Local history is lost if you clear cookies or site data for lovetester.lol, switch browsers or devices, or use a private window that has since closed. Some privacy tools and "lite" browser modes also wipe local storage. Because the history never left your browser, we cannot recover it.

What browsers does lovetester.lol work on?

Any current browser with JavaScript enabled: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari on desktop, plus their mobile versions. If the heart button does nothing, try updating the browser, allowing scripts for the site, and reloading.
